This soft, chewy Indian-style flat bread with a brushing of garlic butter on top is perfect to dip into curries or even enjoy alone. It's so simple to make and so easy to get addicted to.
This buttery, garlicky naan bread is so delicious. This hassle-free recipe is made on a stove top using a flat pan (tawa). The best part about this recipe is you can totally skip the garlic butter and have the flatbread like it is served in the Indian restaurants. It's fluffy and soft, perfect for dipping into saucy dishes or to just wrap chicken or kababs in it. I am already drooling and craving to make another batch of these.
How To Make Garlic Naan
- First make a soft dough and leave it to rise till it doubles in size.
- Divide this amount of dough into 6 balls and then give some time to rest.
- Roll out these balls into a semi circle.
- Heat your flat pan and when it's well heated, turn the heat to medium high and carefully place your naan. You will see bubbles forming on top. Keep checking the bottom of the naan to avoid burning.
- Flip over when one side is cooked and do the same for the other side.
- Make garlic butter by mixing minced garlic with melted butter. Cook till the garlic is no longer raw.
- Then brush this butter as soon as you take off the naan from the pan.
- Keep naan covered until ready to serve.

- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 ½ teaspoon instant yeast
- ¼ cup yogurt
- 1 tablespoon oil
- ¼ cup warm milk
- water – as required
FOR GARLIC BUTTER
- 4 tablespoon butter
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 3 garlic cloves minced
- 2 tablespoon fresh coriander finely chopped
Instructions
- Mix all the dough ingredients together with hand or a kitchen mixer. Knead into a soft dough with lukewarm water.
- Let the dough rise for 1 hour covered in a warm place.
- Make garlic butter by combining all the ingredients in the microwave or cooking over stove until the butter melts. Set aside!
- Punch the dough to release air and then divide into 6 equal sized balls. Let the balls rest for another 10 mins.
- Roll the naans into semi circles of around 0.5cm thickness.
- Heat a flat pan (tawa). Place the naan on it with heat on medium high. It will start rising and forming bubbles on top. Flip over when one side is cooked. Wait for it to get golden on the other side too.
- Put on a plate and brush with garlic butter. Sprinkle some chopped coriander.
- Repeat the same process for all the naans and serve hot!
