This smoothie is inspired by the Persian (Iranian) drink called Majoon, also known as Majoun or Ma'jun. Majoon is known for its sweet and aromatic flavour and is essentially a blend of bananas, dates and toasted nuts.

Ingredients & Substitutions
- Banana – Make sure you use ripe bananas! Smaller bananas will be much sweeter than larger ones. And if you got more ripe bananas lying around then whip up my Chocolate-Marbled Banana Bread!
- Dates – This recipe works best with soft and chewy dates like Medjool. However, you can use another type of date, it's preferable if they are soft. If the dates you use are not soft, soak them in water for some time before starting on with the shake.
- Cinnamon Powder – Cinnamon will add a burst of warm spice which will brighten the banana date shake.
- Milk – I like to use cow’s milk, but feel free to experiment with different kinds. Use whole milk for a richer taste or try coconut milk to lean into the tropical notes of the banana! For dairy-free options try almond milk, soy milk, cashew milk or oat milk. You can also use Greek yogurt.
- Almonds – The whole almonds play exceptionally well with the dates thanks to their high tannin content. However, you can experiment with different types of nuts in this recipe. Use peanuts for a richer flavor, pistachios for a more earthy note, or cashews for creamier texture!
- Desiccated Coconut – The coconut is optional, but it gives some extra texture to the smoothie and complements the tropical flavors of the banana.
- Vanilla Extract – Use vanilla extract instead of vanilla essence. It gives a much more pure flavour.

- Put all the ingredients into a blender.
- Turn the blender on for 30 seconds or until the ingredients appear evenly blended.
