Helpful Tips
Make it Your Own: Feel free to customize the filling with your favorite ingredients like different veggies or meats.
Cooking Temperature: The right temperature is crucial for crispy box patties. If the oil is too low, they will absorb excess oil; if it's too high, the filling will remain cold while the exterior gets too crispy. Fry on medium-high heat for the best results.
Air Frying: For a lighter version, air fry the patties at 190°C (375°F) for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.
Baking: Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F) and bake the patties on a lined baking sheet for 15-20 minutes, turning once, until they are crisp and golden.
Make Ahead and Freezing Instructions
These square samosas can easily be made ahead and stored for later use, perfect for busy days during Ramadan.
After coating the box patties with breadcrumbs, freeze them in a single layer. Once frozen, transfer them to a zip-lock bag for convenient storage.
To fry, simply let them defrost on the countertop or heat them for 20-30 seconds in the microwave before deep frying. Enjoy a quick, crispy treat anytime!
What To Serve With Box Patties
Box patties go great with tamarind chutney or creamy avocado sauce for dipping. Pair them with masala chai, Kashmiri chai, or mango iced tea to complete snack time.
You can also serve them alongside baked chicken wings, spicy masala fries, or a hearty chaat for a well-rounded snack or party spread.
