Garlic Butter Fried Rice is the perfect and easiest side dish that literally goes with any meal and cuisine. You'll know what I mean when you see my Serving Ideas below. From Chinese entrees to grilled chicken topped with creamy sauce to pan-fried shrimps, garlic rice makes everything so wholesome.
If you can cook your rice well then the rest of the dish is a breeze. You'll be having it daily with your weeknight meals. It's that delicious and quick!
How To Cook Rice
This is the method I use for boiling rice. If you prefer another method or rice cooker, feel free to follow that.
- Wash and soak 1 ½ cup of rice in water for 20 minutes.
- Bring 2 cups of water to boil, add salt to taste, drain the rice and add them to the bubbling water on high heat.
- When the water reduces and is only around 2 cm above the rice, lower the heat, cover the pan and let the rice steam for approximately 10-15 minutes till fluffy and fully done.
- Let the rice cool completely before frying them.
How To Make Garlic Butter Fried Rice
- Melt butter in a pan and fry the minced garlic till golden.
- Toss in the steamed rice on medium high heat till coated well with butter.
- Add the white pepper, salt to taste and soy sauce. Mix well.
- Turn off heat and stir in the spring onion. Serve topped with fried garlic slices.
Tips For Perfect Garlic Butter Fried Rice
-
- Leftover, a day old steamed rice work perfectly with this recipe. And in case, you are boiling rice the same day make sure they don't get mushy and are completely cooled before frying them with garlic and butter.
- Stop cooking the garlic as soon as it gets golden, don't brown or burn or it will taste bitter and spoil the whole dish.
What To Serve With Garlic Butter Fried Rice

- Spicy Mongolian Beef
- Chinese Chicken Manchurian
How To Store Leftover Rice
You can store Garlic Rice in an airtight container for 3-4 days in the refrigerator.
